Around the World... One Journey at a Time.

About Us

Kathy—I am happiest when I can achieve a nice balance of the things that I enjoy most in my life—having fun with my husband and children, traveling, nurturing friendships, riding motorcycles, creating artwork, and finding a quiet corner in which to read. I am constantly challenging myself to learn and to stretch what I view as my “comfort zone.” I stopped practicing law three years ago in order to focus time on writing, traveling, and painting.  I also have a fine arts degree, and my artwork currently involves imagery of doors and objects that represent choices, consequences, and the circular nature of life. I feel very fortunate to have such freedom in my life and to be surrounded by so many things that make me smile.

Ben— Ben is one of the most “centered” people that I know—calm, secure, patient, and magnanimous. He is also extremely smart (the tech whiz behind this website) and has always been one who thinks “outside of the box.” He has never limited himself by what others believe about him or about how he should be living his life. He is an imaginative and talented artist as well as a software developer. After our first date, 18 years ago, we were practically inseparable, and he is an exceptional husband and father. The children always use words like “fun”, “silly”, and “crazy” when they describe him, and his antics and play are the source of many squeals of laughter in our home.

Genevieve—Ten years ago we were blessed with a vivacious, creative, energetic spirit who is our daughter, Genevieve. I call her my “get up and go girl.” She is the first to get out of bed each morning, ready for action. She has a lot of my wanderlust and is always ready for a new adventure. She is an independent thinker, full of ideas about how she would like to do things. When I asked her what she most liked about her life, she said, “My family.” Then she added, “And traveling.” When we aren’t traveling, she also enjoys playing with her younger brother, riding her dirt bike, reading, producing her own videos, and making up creative scenarios for her stuffed animals.

Sebastian— After Genevieve, we didn’t think that life could get any better . . . and then three years later our son was born. What a gift Sebastian has been to all of us. He is full of life and sunshine, with a sparkle blazing in his beautiful blue/green/grey eyes (that he got from my mother). His heart is full of kindness and compassion, and he has a strong sense of justice and fairness. One of his teachers said that the one word she would use to describe him is “empathetic”—he cares deeply about other people and is the first to comfort a hurt friend. He enjoys the exhileration of zooming around on his dirt bike.  He also has a vivid imagination and loves to draw complex pictures, each with an elaborate narrative.

About Us

We are a family of four—Kathy, Ben, Genevieve (age 10) and Sebastian (age 7).  Our goal is to learn and have as much fun as possible as we travel through this life together.  “Home” is currently the beautiful town of Aptos, along the Pacific Ocean in Central California.

Planning Our Adventures

For us, each journey begins with the initial heart pangs to venture to a certain part of the world. Then the ideas start coming together . . . ahh, the possibilities . . . and the dream evolves gradually into an actual plan. But, oh, the joy of the dream!  Click here to learn more about how we plan and prepare for our journeys.

Words for the Heart

“. . . and then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
