2009 Journeys: Across the U.S.

by Kathy 10. June 2009 22:27

Over the years, Ben has repeatedly reminisced about how his family traveled around the United States for nine months in a converted bus when he was eight years old.  He has many wonderful memories of that trip, and he dreamed of taking our own children on a similar journey.  This summer we hit the road in our RV for a condensed two-month loop around the United States.

For our trip east, we selected a southern route that would take us through Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C.

Our westward route took us through West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, and then home to California.

We left on June 8th and returned home on August 8th, with our hearts full of awe from the many beautiful places we saw and the experiences we shared.  We also met many wonderful people and were able to spend some precious moments with family and friends along the way.

What an amazing country we live in!!!  We all learned so much--about the complex cultural history of this nation, the incredible land formations, the diverse wildlife, crazy weather patterns, and so much more.  And the strong family bonds that we started with grew even tighter.

Continuing to enjoy the updates, following your adventures across the country as you've done.  Lots happening at Crazy Horse, progress more evident, it seems, nearly every day as preparations are underway for starting work on the hand and the horse's head.

Best to all,
Tom

Hi, Tom!  Glad to hear that you are enjoying our stories!  Our visit to the Crazy Horse Memorial was one of the highlights of our trip--I should be posting that story next week.  I received the Crazy Horse newsletter last week, and I continue to watch in amazement as the horse head and hand evolve.
Warmest wishes,
Kathy

Planning Our Adventures

For us, each journey begins with the initial heart pangs to venture to a certain part of the world. Words for the Heart

“. . . and then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
